Get Involved

Guided by the Gospel we seek to deepen our love and knowledge of God. We reach out in care and friendship to each other and to those in need, striving to be a community filled with faith, hope, and love.

Our Mission Statement

We have a Pastoral Council, which supports the clergy and the work of five Parish groups: Youth; OutreachSocial; Formation; Spiritual. Parishioners are also involved as Catechists, Eucharistic ministers, readers, choristers, altar servers, as meeter-greeters at Mass and in many other ways. In all this good work, we welcome new volunteers, so you’ll find details of many parish groups below, and how you can become involved.

Music in the Church

Music plays a vital part of our liturgical life in the Parish. There has been a fine tradition of music making of a high standard over a number of years.

In our ever increasingly busy lives, music can often be very useful in illuminating those elements of our human feelings and spirituality that are fleeting, complex and difficult to understand. Music can help people to symbolically articulate their response to an experience or an emotion and to share their observations with others.

The worship is led by a group of instrumentalists and singers. Here the emphasis is on informal music making.  The group also encourages the many children who attend this service to join in!

Led by a mixed choir of adult voices, here the worship focuses on the fine tradition of Catholic music from the 16th – 18th Century.  As well as English masses and Plainchant, the choir frequently sing Mass settings by Haydn and Mozart.

The choir rehearses each Sunday during term time from 9.00 a.m to 10.45 a.m. Rehearsals provide education, personal development and improvement through carefully chosen technical exercises for improved voice production and a range of repertoire selected to stretch perceived limits.

The choir also provides music for the major feasts.

This Mass is led by a Cantor and a small group of singers accompanied by the organ. A simple English plainchant setting of the mass is sung alongside traditional and contemporary hymns.

This mass is led by a small group of singers accompanied by piano and instrumentalists. The focus is on the best of old and new music within the established repertoire.

A social club for senior citizens which hosts activities and regular outings

The Young Adults Group is a group of parishioners aged 18-35. It is formed with the belief that this age is a time for great questions and important decisions about life. It is a time to grow in the knowledge of faith and increase the ability to make moral decisions and give Christian witness. But it is also a time of great challenges when people can be misled by the society of consumerism, materialism, atheism and prestige which could drive them away from what they are called to be.

The vision for the Young Adults is that the people aged 18-35 journey together as a small community that becomes active and visible in the parish.

One aim of the group is for them to support each other in making a free and conscientious choice for the Gospel and for what they choose for themselves and for the society. Therefore, they organise activities that help them to grow in their spiritual life and in their experience of the Gospel.

The other aim of the group is that people of this age feel comfortable and at home as members of the Church and become confident in their Christian belief being an inspiration for other young people.

These two aims will be achieved by the following activities: monthly talks on spiritual development & Catholicism and weekly pub socials after the 6:30pm Mass on Sundays.

Children and Teenagers

Our priests and catechists work closely together to ensure our younger parishioners feel valued – and that their parents are supported in bringing up their children in the Catholic faith.

Our young people are encouraged to take an active part in the life of the parish – for example, as servers, singers or instrumentalists.  For many, this is an experience that will remain with them through their lives.

Helping to serve at Mass is a wonderful opportunity way to really get involved in the celebration of the Mass.  Therefore, children who have celebrated their First Holy Communion are invited to join our group of altar servers. Naturally, training and support are provided!

This takes place at 9.45 a.m every Sunday and during term time includes Children’s Liturgy of the Word for children aged 5 and older.  Held in the St Edward’s Room, adjacent to the main body of the Church, it and provides the children with a Liturgy of the Word suited to their age and ability.

The Children’s Liturgy group also organises monthly Masses where children lead the readings and singing and special liturgies throughout the year – such as the first mass of Christmas, Palm Sunday and Good Friday

Aimed at those Confirmed teenagers, between 14-17, the OLOG Youth Group meets for Sunday Fundays! This is a 6-week series with snacks, games, faith and fun in a relaxed environment.

This mass is led by a small group of singers accompanied by piano and instrumentalists. The focus is on the best of old and new music within the established repertoire.
