Sacraments are ‘powers that comes forth’ from the Body of Christ, which is ever-living and life-giving. They are actions of the Holy Spirit at work in his Body, the Church. They are “the masterworks of God” in the new and everlasting covenant.

Baptism
Parents of children to be baptised are asked to profess their faith and to accept the responsibility of raising their child in the practice of the faith, the Christian way of life. This presumes an active faith life on the part of the parents and regular participation in Sunday Mass. Parents new to the parish, or newly returning to the practice of the faith, are, of course, most welcome. However, at least three months of regular attendance at Sunday Mass in the parish will have to have been completed as evidence of future commitment to the practice of the faith before their child can be baptised.
The baptisms themselves usually occur on one Saturday every month at 12.15 p.m, allowing for up to four baptisms each time.
RCIA is a for people who want to know more about the Catholic faith. This course is open to Catholics and non-Catholics alike.
In this Parish, we have meetings each Wednesday from the beginning of September. For further information please speak to one of the priests or contact the Parish Office.
On the calendar are the dates of the Baptism Preparation Course. This course is principally required for those parents for whom this is their first application for the baptism of their child. The course, for a first baptism, is a requirement under the Church’s Canon Law in every Catholic parish.
Our parish course is run almost every month on two consecutive Tuesday evenings at 7.30 p.m to 8.30 p.m. Both halves of the course are essential and should be attended by both parents unless there are especially difficult extenuating circumstances. If possible, infants and babies should not be brought to the two teaching sessions. The sessions are held in the St Edward’s Room which, looking at the main doors of the church from the pavement, is to the right, through the wrought iron gate and straight ahead to the open green door. This corridor opens into the St Edward’s Room.

First Holy Communion
First Communion preparation classes are offered to children in Year Three and above (seven to eight years old) who are resident within the Chiswick, Grove Park and Gunnersbury parish boundaries and who regularly attend Sunday Mass in one of those churches.
Exceptionally, and with the agreement of the respective parish priest, children who are resident in other neighbouring parishes but who for some particular reason wish to undertake their First Holy Communion preparation in Chiswick, may do so provided their Parish Priest agrees and also, that for the duration of the course the child and family attend Mass at Our Lady of Grace and St Edward’s. Please speak with one of the priests to see if it is possible to join our parish programme this year as spaces are limited.

Anointing of the Sick
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is the anointing that is given by a priest to those who are seriously ill.
A sick person may be anointed before surgery, whenever a serious illness is the reason for the surgery. Elderly people may be anointed if they have become notably weakened, even though no serious illness is present. Sick children may be anointed if they have sufficient use of reason to be strengthened by this sacrament.
The Sacrament comforts and strengthens those who are seriously ill; forgiving their sins and restoring their health if this is God’s will – or to prepare them for eternal life.
If you wish to receive the sacrament – or know of anyone who does – please contact the Parish Office.
